DescriptionAndrew is a 3rd year, full-time PhD student at the University of the West of Scotland, near Glasgow. His thesis is entitled ‘Police Professionalisation through Academic Education: A Comparative Analysis’ and is due for submission in October 2020. He currently holds an MSc. (Strategic Leadership), a BSc. (Open), an HNC(Police Studies), and a Cert Training, Learning & Assessment (with Distinction). He retired 6 years ago from Police Scotland with the rank of Superintendent after 30 years’ service during which time he served with Thames Valley Police (1984 – 1988), Central Scotland Police (1988 – 2013) and Police Scotland (2013-2014). His service included secondments to the Scottish Criminal Records Office (2000 – 2003) and to the Scottish Police College (2008-2011) where he was initially Head of Probationer Training before moving to become the Head of Leadership and Professional Development. Since retirement he has developed and delivered performance management and teaching methods learning to senior police leaders in Serbia; undertaken research for the Scottish Institute for Policing Research; been an external assessor for the Scottish Police Service’s Diploma in Police Service, Leadership & Management; and a tutor on the UWS 2nd year undergraduate module ‘Introduction to Policing’. As he nears completion of his PhD, he is keen to become involved with academic education, police learning and post-doctoral research.
