DescriptionBrian completed a thirty-year career with the Metropolitan Police Service, New Scotland Yard in 2011. He served at all ranks as a detective officer in the Criminal Investigation Department attaining the rank of Detective Chief Inspector within the Specialist Crime Directorate. He has extensive operational and management experience of all aspects of proactive investigation, intelligence development, and delivery of related specialist training to UK police forces, overseas law enforcement and external agencies. This also includes national and international strategic experience in the development of best practice, human rights and ethical compliance in the criminal justice sector. He has also led capability building projects for a number of international law enforcement agencies and NGOs overseas. Following his police career, Brian took up a full time senior lectureship at the University of Portsmouth, Institute of Criminal Justice Studies, teaching at undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral level. His specialisms include criminal investigation; intelligence; covert policing; organised crime; wildlife crime, ethics, leadership and management in intelligence and investigations. He has successfully tutored and mentored a diverse range of ‘policing’ students, which include serving police officers undertaking academic study of all ranks up to chief officer. He is currently an independent international criminal justice & leadership consultant, and maintains his senior lectureship at the University of Portsmouth part time. He holds a Doctorate of Criminal Justice (DCrimJ) from the University of Portsmouth, an MA in Intelligence and Security Studies from Brunel University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
