Carl Maltravers (Sporting Venue Safety Specialist)

Carl Maltravers has 35 years’ experience in the Police service, working in South Yorkshire.
Initially within the CID but progressing to public order and incident command following his involvement in a major sporting disaster, which played a major part in his career for over 30 years. He was involved in the resulting public enquiries and inquests.
He was commended some 17 times during his career, relating to various incidents, including an IRA bomb incident at the World Snooker Championships.
He achieved awards for leading teams in a number of specialist operations, at times working under the Protect arm of the UK Contest Strategy. Later in his service he was heavily involved in tactical incident command and public order Policing.
Carl spent 5 years with the Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College as a Lecturer/Manager specialising in complex locations safety, with emphasis on retail environments, counter terrorism and critical incident management.
Consulting, training, and assessing at operational and tactical levels on major incident management, often with a specific focus on writing, validating and training in crowd movement and emergency procedures. Carl went on to Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations
