Martin is a qualified trainer and assessor who enjoyed a 30-year career as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Service, attaining the rank of Inspector. He spent most of his career as an operational officer and has significant experience of leading the initial response to a wide range of critical incidents and crisis situations.
Martin was a hostage and crisis negotiator, working in specialist teams to deliver positive outcomes. He also has experience of managing counter terrorism teams, proactive task forces and community policing teams.
Additionally, he has specialist knowledge of police custody suites, having managed the strategic oversight and operational running of custody suites across a large London Borough. He also held the position of training manager at the Hendon Police Recruit Training School. He has current and extensive experience of training police officers on the Certificate of Knowledge in Policing and Police Recruit Foundation course. He also provides assessment services for police officers seeking promotion. Martin holds a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training and is a qualified assessor who was awarded a Borough Commanders Commendation for his dedication and commitment to training. His training skills extend into the International policing arena. As Head of General Policing at the Jordanian International Police Training Centre he led the direction and performance of International trainers and interpreters to deliver the curriculum to 1500 Iraqi police officers.
Martin also introduced a quality assurance programme to develop trainers and ensure high quality delivery, which embraced the diverse cultural and religious needs.
