President of the London Policing College

Rod has over 32 years’ experience in the Metropolitan Police Service with experience in frontline policing, developing leadership and learning. He has achieved success in Policing with a focus on neighbourhood policing, critical incident management, crime prevention, leadership and learning.

Rod’s role as Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) was as a Director for Leadership and Learning in the Metropolitan Police Service with overall responsibility for delivery of all training and leading 33,000 police officers and staff achieving considerable success at solving and reducing crime, increasing competency, and detaining offenders.

Rod has developed his own consultancy delivering training police forces in the UK, Abu Dhabi and China with over 150 associates and 75 programmes covering every aspect of police development, including undergraduate and post graduate degrees. He has led the London Policing College and developed sustainable programmes in the UK, Middle East, Far East and China.

He has maintained his operational capability and insight as an Associate Inspector with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary Fire and Rescue (HMICFRS) focusing on Leadership and supporting Inspections of forces on all aspects of Policing.

Rod is the lead for police education and research at the University of West London; leading on the development and delivery of graduate and post graduate qualifications in policing, supporting the introduction of the UK Police Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF). In addition, he is an Associate lecturer for the College of Policing that involves all National Police UK training.

He holds masters’ degrees in Police Leadership and Management (Leicester) and Applied Criminology (Cambridge), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and is a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management and Chartered Management Institute. He holds the Queen’s Police Medal for services to policing and is a member of the most venerable order of St John of Jerusalem.
