Tom has experience of policing and worked in child protection and safeguarding, he has worked in the National Crime Squad and National Crime Agency leading national and international investigations of both on-line and off-line child sexual abuse. Tom led CEOP’s Behavioural Analysis Unit that provided specialist knowledge and advice.
Tom has lectured at the University of Central Lancashire, London Metropolitan University and London City University. He completed the Child Exploitation and On-line Protection Centre’s (CEOP) Behavioural Analysis Unit’s accreditation programme for Forensic Behavioural Analysts. He has passed both the American Polygraph Association’s Polygraph examiners course and Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing course.
As an investigator, MOGP/ABE interviewer and trainer, Tom delivered joint child abuse training with social services. He is trained in the use of SVR-20 and S-BAT risk assessments models.
Tom has completed safeguarding suitability assessments of individuals for several national youth organisations, charities, and schools. He has conducted polygraph examinations for UK police forces, social services, and defence solicitors.
He has continued to undertake twice yearly ‘Continuing Professional Development’, including an accredited Safeguarding Children Managers’ Course (9th – 10th July 2019). Tom was awarded the QPM for distinguished police service in 2013.
Tom has been awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Forensic Behavioural Psychology (UCLan), as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Change Management and Leadership (UCLan). He is the holder of the Queen’s Police Medal for his services to policing.
